The Downfall of Academia
What exactly are we defending, when we defend the humanities?
The downfall of academia, especially in fields like English studies or English literature, has been going on for some time now:
-Infiltrated politics and propaganda are distorting reality.
-When literature was once studied (for its profound beauty and philosophy), now it is seen as a tool for activism.
-Students are not taught to properly THINK anymore, but to ADOPT already-made ideas.
-Classic writers are vulgarly being used to strengthen post-modern ideologies.
-Contemporary curriculum books are chosen based on anything an author identifies as, instead of their genuine quality.
-Morals, ethics, and truth are being replaced by subjectiveness.
-There is very little room for different views to be heard—views that just disagree with the current political narratives—without them being perceived as racist, fascist or puritanical.

Presently, it seems that the mold one needs to fit into, in order to survive in some branches of academia, is a very precise and limiting one. That’s why, in some cases, both students and teachers eventually seek a different path outside those fields…
We cannot be oblivious to that.
